Worship with Conversation
The Worship with Conversation Service takes place at 9:00am most Sundays in the west transept and is a more intimate and collaborative experience. Whilst still retaining the essential components of a church service, the 9am service takes place in a circle, where the minister and congregants sit together as equals.
The Minister leads a discussion based on the theme of the week’s message and bible readings, in which contributions are welcomed from all.
This Service caters to those who want a more collaborative service, desire a more informal approach to faith or simply want an earlier start to their day. Communion is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month. There is no 9:00am service on the last Sunday in February, April, June. August, October, because the two congregations instead combine for a whole church service at 10:15am. The 9:00am service also pauses between Christmas and the first Sunday in February.
10:15am Service
The 10:15am Worship Services take place each Sunday throughout the year, with the exception of 26 December to 31 January, when the 9am services join with the 10:15, and meet at 9:30am.
The 10:15 service follows a traditional format led by a Minister of the Word with support from our talented choir and pipe organists. The typical service runs for 45-60 minutes and includes the Minister’s message, 3 - 4 hymns, bible readings and choral offerings. Christmas and Easter Sunday services also follow a traditional format and include a children’s address. Communion is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month.
Music plays a large role in the 10:15am service, with 3 - 4 hymns as well as an introit, anthem, musical offering reflection and organ postlude at most services. From time to time there are vocal or instrumental soloists, especially on important liturgical occasions in the church year. The Pamela Brown handbell choir participates several times a year.
Baptisms
Baptism is the Sacrament that welcomes a new member into the Christian faith community and is a sign of new life through Jesus. The Church offers baptism for people of all ages, including infants, children, and adults, as a public expression of faith and belonging. Baptism is usually incorporated into a regular Sunday worship service to enable the congregation to affirm their commitment to supporting the new member throughout their life.
Funeral Services
Toorak Uniting Church supports families during times of loss and bereavement with compassionate and dignified funeral services. Please contact the church office should you wish to arrange for a service to take place in the church and/or if you are seeking pastoral support.
Interments
Toorak Uniting Church welcomes the ashes of members for interment in our beautiful Memorial Garden to the east corner of the church building.
Interment is preceeded by a service conducted by the minister. To arrange for an interment, please contact the Church office.
